JONATHAN COLON

Jonathan Colón
Born and raised in The Bay Area, a San Jose native, Jonathan Colón grew up with a natural talent in music due to his family background. His cultural roots derive from Ponce, Puerto Rico and Veracruz, Mexico. Growing up, Jonathan was heavily surrounded by Latin & Caribbean rhythms and in no time, he developed the ability to play Latin percussion instruments.
Coming from a musically inclined family, including his mother who sings and his uncles who play several instruments including the guitar, piano, bass, tres, Puerto Rican cuatro, percussion, etc., Jonathan was always drawn to Latin percussion and Latin music. His uncles became his music instructors when he was just 8 years old and the bongo was the first instrument he learned to play. From that day forward, Jonathan became the percussion musician that he is today with constant practice, passion and dedication to music. Additionally, he briefly studied music at Mission College in Santa Clara.
Today, Jonathan has performed alongside many recognized Bay Area Salsa Bands and has musically supported artist such as La India, Jerry Rivera, Maelo Ruiz, Johnny Rivera, Charlie Aponte, Jimmy Bosch and Herman Olivera just to highlight a few.
