BARI SAXOPHONE

JOE CAMACHO

Joe Camacho

Born and raised in Oakland, CA, Joe is a Bay Area native.  He found the gift of music in his seventh grade year and never turned back.

Joe was invited to join Orquesta Borinquen in 1999, at the age of 18 he was already joining a very powerful horn section featuring current members Bill Ortega, Jr., Freddy Martinez and the late Jim Martinez.  In 2001 he left to join the U.S. Air Force where he went on to serve for five years in the communications field.

While he was serving in the militatry he played with Orquesta Borinquen when he was on leave, but primarily played lead tenor in a Big Band Jazz group along the MIssissippi Gulf Coast called "The Londonaires", along with other groups in the area.  Upon his separation from duty in 2006, he returned to the Bay Area and rejoined Orquesta Borinquen full-time.

Aside from playing Baritone Sax, Joe has contributed in helping out with arrangements and recorded tracks on both of Borinquen's albums.  He has been fortunate to share the stage with Oscar D'Leon, Johnny Rivera, Oro Solido, Jerry Rivera and many outstanding bands and musicians throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and across Southern California.

While Joe plays primarily with Orquesta Borinquen, he enjoys playing other types of music as well, occasionally playing with Richmond based funk band "GTS" and other salsa groups.
